Why you should read the Book How to Win Friends and Influence People

Leadership Book Recommendation

Why you should read the book How to Win Friends and Influence People

“Explore the magic of “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and discover how it can positively shape your connections, both personally and professionally. It’s not just a book; it’s a journey toward meaningful relationships and a better you. Dive in and let the transformation begin!”

I often discuss this book so much that you might assume I receive a commission for every copy sold. However, that assumption would be incorrect.

If you’re familiar with me or have been following me for any length of time, chances are you’ve heard me recommend the book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. This is because it is the very book that has enabled me to salvage my job, acquire new clients, retain clients on the verge of leaving, and even influence and lead my team.

The principles in the book are genuinely timeless and indeed effective! In my household, every one of my children over 16 has read this book at least once. Not only have they read it, but we have also engaged in extensive discussions about it.

I vividly recall the first time I discovered “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” I was employed at Crossfire, and the company’s president, Ezra Lee, invited me to his office to discuss the company’s DOT program and what I required to succeed. During our conversation, I mentioned my struggle in getting some drivers and leaders on board with our new DOT program. To this, he asked, “Have you ever heard of the book ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’?”

Upon learning that I hadn’t, he passionately recommended it as one of the best books he had ever read on influencing and persuading others. He urged me to get a copy and read it.

In response, I promptly went back to my office, ordered a copy from Amazon, and delved into it as soon as it arrived. Afterward, I proudly informed the president that I am proactive, having ordered and read the book. When he inquired about my thoughts, I expressed that it was good but didn’t leave a significant impression on me. Subsequently, he instructed me to retrieve the book so he could review it himself.

I hurried back to my office, retrieved the book, and returned to his office, only to find out that I had accidentally ordered the wrong book. After a lighthearted moment, we rectified the mistake and obtained the correct book.

Following these events, I revisited his office to share what I had learned and how I intended to apply it. Our conversation revolved around the principles I had retained and how I could utilize them to benefit the DOT program, leaving me feeling inspired and ready to effect real change. This incident exemplifies the caliber of leadership demonstrated by Ezra.

As I traveled, I revisited the book numerous times. Even now, I revisit it multiple times a year. When someone assumes a new leadership role, I encourage them to read it; I have even gifted it to individuals due to the immense value it has offered me. I now prefer listening to the book to save time.

One significant aspect for me is the incredulity that this book, written in the 1930s, remains profoundly relevant. It serves as a veritable guide for leading others. By dedicating time to studying the principles within, you are guaranteed success in all aspects of life, especially in leading others.

I must stress that the techniques from “How to Win Friends and Influence People” must be employed for ethical purposes as if misused, they could yield devastating consequences in the wrong hands.

In the coming months, I plan to share the principles from Dale Carnegie to aid your learning. I also encourage you to read the book yourself. And if you truly want to offer me an exceptional gift, a manuscript for the book would be pretty cool. (Just kidding. Not really, though. LOL)
