Driving Excellence: Meet the 18 Champions of TCA’s 2024 Fleet Safety Awards

Golden trophy with TCA 2024 Fleet Safety Awards.

Safety isn’t just a goal in the trucking industry—it’s a mission. And every year, the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) honors those who go above and beyond to make our roads safer with its prestigious Fleet Safety Awards. This year, as the competition marked its 49th year, 18 carriers emerged victorious as division winners, proving that safety isn’t just about miles—it’s about a mindset.

Sponsored by industry leaders Great West Casualty Company and Assured Partners, the Fleet Safety Awards celebrate carriers that achieve the lowest accident frequency ratios per million miles. Divided into six mileage-based categories, the awards highlight carriers of all sizes, from those logging less than five million miles a year to those exceeding 100 million.

These winners aren’t just ticking boxes—they’re setting standards. They’ve embraced technology, developed innovative safety programs, and fostered a culture of safety that’s woven into the fabric of their operations. Their efforts keep the roads safer for everyone, from truckers to everyday commuters.

Dave Heller, TCA’s Senior VP of Safety and Government Affairs, put it perfectly:

“Every year, these submissions and ratios are growing tighter and tighter as a testament to the programs and technology that motor carriers are using to improve upon their safety performance. Involvement in TCA and other industry associations have demonstrated and proven the very notion that there are no secrets in safety and our industry’s fundamental goal of eliminating fleets vehicle accidents and fatalities on our roadways is an objective that we are ultimately striving for.

I congratulate these 18 motor carriers that have led the way this year and the tireless efforts of every motor carrier in our industry that constantly strive to improve upon their operations by continuously placing safety first.”

The Fleet Safety Awards: Trucking’s Gold Medal Moment

If you think winning one of these awards is a walk in the park, think again. This competition is tougher than a truck stop steak. Carriers have to prove their safety chops by achieving accident frequency ratios lower than a rookie driver’s odds of parallel parking perfectly.

It’s not just about avoiding accidents—it’s about setting up systems, training teams, and using cutting-edge tech to prevent them in the first place. Think advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), predictive analytics, and telematics that practically scream, “We’ve got this!”

But the real secret sauce? Teamwork. These carriers didn’t just implement policies; they built a culture where safety is everyone’s job, from the driver in the cab to the manager in the office.

Next Stop: The Grand Championship

Winning a division title is no small feat, but for these carriers, the journey isn’t over. They’re now in the running for the ultimate trucking accolade: the Grand Champion awards.

Two fleets will rise to the top—one with less than 25 million miles annually and one with more than 25 million. Think of it as the Super Bowl of safety, where every policy, every program, and every mile counts.

The winners will be revealed at Truckload 2025, TCA’s Annual Convention, from March 15–18 in Phoenix, Arizona. Afterward, they’ll be celebrated at the TCA’s Safety & Security Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, from June 8–10. It’s like a victory lap but with fewer pit stops and more PowerPoint slides.

Why Safety Awards Matter

Let’s talk about why these awards are more than just a shiny trophy and a photo op. The trucking industry moves the world (literally), and with that comes a huge responsibility: keeping the roads safe for everyone.

This year’s winners are proof that safety doesn’t just happen—it’s earned. It’s the result of investments in technology, like telematics and driver monitoring systems, and a relentless commitment to training and culture.

And the impact? Huge. Every program implemented, every accident avoided, and every safety milestone reached contributes to a safer, more efficient industry. These carriers aren’t just winning awards—they’re saving lives.

The Big Picture: Safety First, Always

The Fleet Safety Awards remind us that safety is more than a buzzword; it’s a way of life. From the driver’s seat to the boardroom, it takes a collective effort to make safety a priority.

So, to this year’s 18 winners: congratulations! You’re leading the charge, raising the bar, and proving that excellence is just another day at the office.

To everyone else: take note. The road to safety starts with a commitment to doing things right. And who knows? Maybe next year, your name will be on this list.

Stay tuned for Truckload 2025, where we’ll find out which carriers take home the Grand Champion titles. Until then, keep driving excellence—and remember: safety first, always. 🚛✨
